TRANSMISSION SYSTEM OF A PACKET SIGNAL IN AN INTEGRATED NETWORK SYSTEM USING A FRAME FORMAT FLEXIBLE FOR VARIOUS FORMS OF THE INTEGRATED NETWORK SYSTEM

Abstract of the Disclosure:For integration of ISDN system and LAN system, aflexible frame format is provided which comprises aframe identifier (FID) field, an address (ADDRESS)field, an data (DATA) field, and a frame check sequrnce(FCS) field. In a transmitting portion in theintegrated system, a desired one of an ISDN data unitand an LAN data unit, an address information of adestination address DA and a source address SA, the FIDindicating a type of the data unit, and the FCS areinserted in the data field, the address field, the FIDfield and the FCS field, respectively, to form a packetsignal which is transmitted therefrom. In the receivingportion for the packet signal in the integrated system,the type of the data unit is discriminated from the FIDand the address information in the packet signal, andthe packet signal is processed at a corresponding one ofISDN data and LAN data processor. The use of the frameformat enables to form the integrated network system invarious forms. The frame format allows modification byaddition of any control field. Therefore, the frameformat is also used in an integrated LAN system ofdifferent type LAN systems.
