ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn extrusion die for extruding a honeycomb-shaped structure having rectangular channels.The die is formed of a hard, rigid material,preferably metal, and includes a body plate andan abutting face plate. The outlet face of thebody plate is brazed to the inlet face of theface plate. The body plate has a plurality ofslightly staggered primary feed holes, theoutlet ends of each communicating with anassociated feed reservoir, the latter eachdefined by a recess or depression in the inletsurface of the face plate. Each feed reservoircommunicates with the inlet ends of threeassociated secondary feed holes. The outletsurface of the face plate integrally carries aplurality of intersecting slot segmentsdefining rectangular pins. The outlet end ofeach secondary feed hole communicates with andfeeds an associated intersection of groovesegments. The arrangement is such that thenumber of slot intersections is greater thanthe number of secondary feed holes, with twodiagonally opposite corners of any pincommunicating with a secondary feed hole. Thecombination of rectangular pins (dischargeslots) and staggering of the main feed holesmaximizes the die interface brazing area tothereby realize honeycomb cell densities of 900- 1400 cells per square inch.
