A NON-RETURNABLE NEWSPRINT CARRIER SYSTEMAbstract Of The InventionA non-returnable newsprint carrier system is pro-vided which is adapted for winding of newsprint, shippingand storing of newsprint and mounting in reels of offsetprinting presses on stub shafts, and which is characterizedby eliminating the need for a return to the newsprint manu-facturer, increasing core crush resistance during shippingand storing, and reducing roll vibration during unwinding inthe printing press. The system comprises a tubular corewithout metal end caps thereon and defining inside surfacesat opposite ends for receiving therewithin the reel stubshafts of the offset printing press. Core plugs are pro-vided for being inserted into the ends of the tubular coreto prevent damage to the and portions of the tubular coreand to the newsprint roll. Each of the core plugs comprisea solid body without holes or grooves therein and formed ofcrush resistant material. The inside surfaces of the oppo-site end portions of the tubular core and the outside sur-faces of the core plugs have substantially the samenon-cylindrical configuration, profile and dimensions as theportion of the outside surfaces of the reel stub shafts sothat the tubular core will have a full profile fit insurface-to-surface contact over substantially the entiresurface area of the reel stub shafts and the core plugs.the core plugs have an outside lip area for suitable engage-ment or gripping to remove the core plugs from the tubularcore.
