Method and apparatus for an object oriented material management system

A method and apparatus providing for the management of material in suitable facilities designed and developed using object oriented technology comprised of objects representative of material and the like located in and activities being performed in the facility. The objects have data values and references, and are organized based on a unique set of classes adaptable for use with any facility handling material. The data values and references of objects correspond to the attributes of a class and the methods associated with the class, respectively. The objects are organized in a single object containment tree that represents one or more facilities. The objects in the object containment tree (1100) are manipulated to represent transactions, i.e., the movement of material, occurring within the facility.
