The invention relates to a process and device for synchronising terminals which communicate via a transmission chain which does not supply any time reference. According to the invention the transmitting terminal transmits codes N and P, the first of which represents a master frequency Fo for an independent clock network, and the second a transmission frequency Fe. At the receiving terminal these codes N and P are compared to codes R and X, one of which represents the master frequency Fo of the clock network and the other a frequency Fr. The frequency Fr is then modified depending on the comparison of the codes, so that Fr = Fe. The invention is applicable to asynchronous transmission systems. IMAGE
