The invention relates to a method and device for generating heat from the combustion of a fuel with reduced emissions of sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides. According to the invention, combustion is carried out in a combustion chamber (1) under conditions close to stoichiometric conditions between 700 DEG C, and some of the heat is extracted. The combustion waste and absorbent particles of a granulometry of between 1 and 100 microns are subsequently introduced into a turbulent zone (9). Desulphurisation is carried out on a transported bed in an adiabatic desulphurisation chamber (8) in an oxidising atmosphere under such conditions that the oxygen content at the outlet of the desulphurisation chamber is between 0.1 and 5% by volume. This provides a mixture of particles and desulphurised waste which is introduced into a heat recovery chamber (16). The cooled particles are then separated out at (26) from the desulphurised waste which is denitrided and contains essentially no more unburnt combustible compounds, and the said waste is rejected.
