The invention relates to a process for producing mouldings, in particular also geometrically complex mouldings, using powder metallurgical processes. To this end, the powder material is fed into a single-use, dimensionally stiff plastic, preferably expanded polystyrene, compression mould, compacted cold-isostatically to form compacts and subsequently sintered. The process according to the invention combines the advantages of axial pressing in a female mould, that is to say the production of dimensionally stable, geometrically complex mouldings in an economical manner, with the advantages of cold-isostatic pressing of a conventional type, that is to say high and uniform compaction of the powder to form corresponding non-symmetrical mouldings of high mechanical strength.
