A hard disk drive (10) whose dimensions are 5.15 inches long, 4.00 inches wide and 0.805 inch high is described. The disk drive (10) comprises a cover (14) engaging with a base (12) to form therebetween a controlled environment isolated from ambient atmospheric conditions. A storage medium, comprising a single magnetic metallic plate (22) provided with a central point (21) in the middle of a multiplicity of concentric tracks, is rotatably mounted on said base (12) within the environment regulated. An element (20) for rotating the storage medium about an axis passing through its center, preferably comprising a control shaft engine (20) is also mounted on said base (12). The transducers (60), the number of one per disk surface and for reading and writing information in the disc (22) are mounted on an actuator (50) which places the transducers (60) on individual concentric tracks selected disk (22). A printed circuit board (PCB) (15) provides control signals to the spindle motor (20), the transducers (60) and the actuator (50) to permit selective access to stored data.
