lubricant additive composition comprising the halogen-free elemental sulfur reaction product of an olefin and an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or a metal salt alkaline earth hydrosulfide. It was found that the reaction product contains little or no dithioléthiones and is useful as an additive to extreme pressure / antiwear fuel for engines, as well as lubricants such as oils and fats in mineral and synthetic base.
