waveguide for the nonlinear wavelength conversion comprising a second order thin film inserted in an optically passive waveguiding medium wherein the film is optically active and non-linear and has periodic changes of the optical properties nonlinear propagation direction, the thickness of said film being less than 50% of the smaller effective cross-dimension of the waveguide and the width of said film being greater than or equal to the greatest transverse dimension of the waveguide ; said waveguide being preferably surrounded by a protective material whose refractive indices are lower than those of the waveguide.
