DETECTING CIGUATOXIN IN SERUM USING STICK ENZYME IMMUNOASSAY

The present invention relates to a method for detecting the presence of ciguatoxin or a marine polyether toxin related in human serum. The steps of ciguatoxin detection consist in isolating a serum sample, to attach and fix the toxin to a carrier and to rinse the carrier-toxin complex resulting in a buffer solution to remove any unbound toxin and any residual spray. Detecting the presence of cignatoxine binder an antitoxin, an antibody against ciguatoxin conjugated with an enzyme, toxin-carrier complex to form a complex toxin-antitoxin-enzyme. The enzyme complex toxin-antitoxin-enzyme is analyzed and the amount of product formed by the enzyme is quantified. A kit for performing the analysis is also described.
