PURPOSE:To remarkably enhance the strength of an 18-8 stainless steel at high strength by adding specified amounts of Cu, Mo, Ti, Nb, etc. to the steel or by further adding Mg, Y, etc. CONSTITUTION:This 18-8 stainless steel with superior strength at high temp. usable at about 900 deg.C like an Ni superalloy used as a material for a boiler, a turbine, chemical industry and nuclear power industry has a composition contg. 0.02-0.2% C, 2% Si, 2% Mn, 10-25% Cr, 10-25% Ni, 1-8% Mo, 2-7% Cu, 0.6% Al and 0.003-0.05% Mg or further contg. 0.01-2% Nb(+Ta) and/or 0.0001-0.02% B. Said Ni, Mo, Mg and Nb(+Ta) may be replaced partially or wholly with Co, W, Y and Ti, respectively. This stainless steel is comparable to the Ni superalloy in strength at high temp.
