Asbestos-contg. rubble is embedded in concrete by mechanically comminuting the rubble if necessary and mixing it with water to form a pumpable slurry which is added to cement and cast into moulds for hardening to concrete bodies, the novelty being that the surfaces of the rubble particles are wetted by addn. of aq. sodium silicate soln. before mixing with the water and cement. Equipment for the process comprises a closed vessel with closable feed and discharge lines, a transport pump and a mixer for mixing the vessel contents, the novelty being that (i) the pump is a vacuum pump connected at its suction side to the vessel interior above its max. filling level; (ii) the mixer is a rotor mixer with a stirrer vane head fixed to an axle rotated by a drive motor which is located outside the vessel with the axle being sealed at its entry into the vessel; and (iii) supply vessels for flowable and/or pourable substances are connected to the interior of the vessel.
