A control unit (40) contains a program memory (41) with regions for each measurement input (1-8). Each region contains the analogue measurement range and type of parameter. The inputs are cyclically interrogated, in multiplex fashion, to determine the measurement range, parameter type and instantaneous analogue measurement valve. Semiconductor switches (11-28) for each measurement input are switched during a measurement cycle depending on the contents of the program memory. The instantaneous valve of the analogue measurement parameter is converted by an analogue-to-digital converter (34) and written into a read-write memory in the control unit.
