Producing plates from gypsum-fibre mixtures - uses high fibre content to introduce water to hydrate gypsum and improve homogeneity of plate properties

Method of making shaped bodies, esp. plates, from mixtures of gypsum, water for hydrating the gypsum, and lignocellulose and/or cellulose-contg. fibres in which the mixt. contg. above 25 to 50 wt.% fibre is sprayed onto a moving substrate to produce a fleece and then pressed to produce a density of 600-750, esp. 680 kg/m3. The visible side of the plate is then provided with colour or lacquer coating to increase surface strength. USE/ADVANTAGE - As wall or cover plates for producing furniture. Improves the homogeneity of water distribution over the body of the fleece by using the water in the satd. fibres as partial supply of hydration water for the gypsum. This leads to improved homogeneous properties and surface quality.
