Secured at one end (3) is a flexible wire or band (7) which is wrapped round a drum (8) on the shaft of a stepping motor (9) secured by a slide (13,17). The slide (17) is guided along the length of the positioner by guides (11,12) and so the positioner is capable of self creating linear movements. The other end of the wire is connected to the opposite end plate (4) using a tensioning spring (28). Rotation of the motor winches the slide to a desired position under control of signals from a scale and displacement transducer. USE/ADVANTAGE - Can be applied to machine tools and work handling equipment. Simple, low-cost system.
