The input amplifier (7) is controlled via a stimulation electrode (6) within a set time window after application of a stimulation pulse for receiving a signal indicating heart activity. Pref. there is no change of polarity of the pacemaker output signal. The cardiac activity signal is pref. held as an intermediate measure in a digital shift register (9) supplied via an output capacitor (4) and a-d converter (8). The signal storage is automatically released from the output signal of the pulse shaping stage (2). A flip-flop (13) is then set after a delay determined by a timing member (12). The flip-flop is set for a complete write-in or read-out of the shift register.
