A rectifer subcircuit has take-offs (4,5) with switches (2,3) for fast isolation. Each isolating switch connects to a coupling module (21,25) with anti-parallel thyristors (6,8 and 7,9), together with diodes (14,16 and 15,17) in series with auxiliary isolators (10,12 and 11,13). Each parallel arrangement connects to a forward discharge coupling (18) and a reverse discharge coupling (19), that connect to a discharge module (26). This has discharge capacitors (20,22) and thyristors (21,23). ADVANTAGE - Provides cost effective isolation switching.
