Short circuit fault locator for multilayer circuit board assembly - passes current through one conductor and measures voltage between internal point in this conductor and a connection to the second conductor

The appts. for locating short circuit faults between two mutually insulated electrical conductors includes a current generator (6) which passes a current through one conductor (1) from a positive connector to a negative one. A voltage (7) is measured between an internal point in the first conductor and a connection of the second conductor (2). An evaluation device generates a warning signal depending on the detected voltage to indicate whether the short (3) lies between the first connection point (4) and the internal point in the first conductor. USE/ADVANTAGE - For locating short circuits between supply/ground planes for flat circuit assemblies with at least one internal point accessible to measurement probe. Enables simpler and faster location of short circuit faults.
