A process is disclosed for producing porous, through-flowable mouldings made of silicium carbide having low electric resistance, as well as a diesel soot filtering element produced according to this process. An appropriate granulated powder mix, composed for example of coking organic binder, silicium and a nitrogen compound, is moulded into a green body, is coked in an inert gas atmosphere or under vacuum at a temperature between 600 DEG and 1000 DEG C, then silicated at 1400 DEG to 2000 DEG C. If the powder mix contains no nitrogen compounds, the green body is silicated in a nitrogen-containing atmosphere. Advantageous embodiments of the invention concern individual details of the powder mix preparation. This process makes it possible to produce a diesel soot filtering element that can be electrically heated up and regenerated.
