Plate-shaped electrostatic precipitator electrodes are arranged in the path of the exhaust gas and the electrodes are excited with DC energy. The energy is supplied pulses, possibly superimposed upon a steady DC voltage. The pulsing cycle has pause times of several times the time span of a pulse. A current density of 0.25 to 5 mA/sq m is used and an electrode separation of 200 to 500 mm. ADVANTAGE - Improved cleaning. Can remove dust and toxic content like acid vapour and sublimated non-ferrous vapour.
