The control system uses a pressure sensor (27) signal to determine the beginning of the fuel injection interval and the timing of the fuel injection pulse, for accurate evaluation of the actual fuel injection quantity. The output signal from the pressure sensor is compared with a given threshold to detect the beginning of the fuel injection interval, and a differentiated pressure sensor signal is used to detect the end of this interval. The pressure sensor is pref. incorporated in a pump element, and the injected fuel quantity is provided by a field of values addressed by the fuel injection interval and the detected engine revs. ADVANTAGE - Precise detection of injected fuel quantity.
