The safety unit is for an engine (1) with coolant system and coolant balance container, esp. a supercharged injection engine. It has a capacity adjusting member for the fuel, which is regulated dependent upon operational parameters of the engine. It also has a pneumatic adjusting device to limit max. fuel volume. The pneumatic device (7) adjusts the capacity adjusting member, dependent upon the coolant pressure above a set limit, for a fuel redn. The device is in active connection with the coolant balance container (3). It contains a coolant-dependent pressure cell (9). The projecting adjusting bar (11) of the cell is adjusted to act against the load pressure, when the coolant pressure exceeds the limit.
