A conveyor or driving belt (I) has a component (II) which can be used as a marker to trigger control processes. (II) consists of ferromagnetic material (5) embedded in a strip of elastic plastic (III) (flat strip (6), round cord (3)) and fixed onto (I) (conveyor belt (1), toothed belt (7)) in such a way that variable markings can be applied by magnetisation. More specifically, (III) consists of a thermoplastic material (A) which can be attached to (I) (also at least partly made of thermoplastic (B) by welding or glueing and which contains particles of Fe (alloy), Fe oxide, CrO2 or other ferromagnetic oxides. (A) has a lower m.pt. than (B). (A) and (B) are the same type of thermoplastic i.e. polyurethanes with m.pts. of 155 deg. F (B) and 145 deg. C (A) or (A) is PVC with m.tp. of 120 deg. C. Round cord (3) has dia. equal to the total thickness of (I) and is welded onto a cut edge (2) so that the side of the cord (3) facing the cut edge adapts itself to the shape of the edge during welding and covers it completely. Pref. cut edge (2) is chamfered to form a large rcontact surface. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention provides a magnetically marked belt which enables the input of varied (pref. digital) control commands so that belt movement can be precisely controlled without expensive intermittent motors or spindle drives. The system enables the magnetic material to be durably and permanently fixed to the belt in the exact position required for magnetisation and scanning without affecting the functioning of the belt.
