A roller mill for crushing hard brittle material has two parallel rollers (1,2) each of which is driven from a main motor (13), through a two-stage epicyclic gear (6,7) with the sun wheel of each first stage being mounted on the driving shaft of the corresponding motor (13). A hydraulic motor (12,12') is installed between the main motor (13) and its corresponding rotor. Each hydraulic motor drives the internally toothed gear of the first stage of each epicyclic gear. The hydraulic motors are supplied with hydraulic fluid from a common pump (15). USE/ADVANTAGE - Crushing hard brittle material such as cement clinker, foundry sand etc. The hydraulic drive provides a very wide range of operating speed.
