DC power supply circuit with power factor regulator - detects voltage and/or current at rectifier output and at capacitor, and controls power factor regulator accordingly
The DC power supply circuit has a power factor regulator (4) inserted between a rectifier (2) and an output filter capacitor (3) of a DC power supply. The regulator adjusts the current drawn from the transformer (1) so that the current is sinusoidal and in-phase with the transformer voltage. This results in reducing the loss of the transformer. Therefore, a transformer with a smaller power rating than that used in traditional power supplies can be used. ADVANTAGE - Smaller size transformer due to reduced losses, and lower noise level, so reduced shielding. Lower noise level.
