The two turbochargers are each composed of a turbine and compressor. The exhaust turbines are arranged in parallel and the compressors in series and the second or high pressure compressor arranged between the first or low pressure compressor and the engine is one size smaller than this first compressor. The high pressure compressor (2) should be at least one size smaller than the second exhaust turbine (4) coupled to it and the compressor wheel is two sizes smaller than the compressor wheel of the low pressure compressor (1). There is a bypass valve (5) pref. between compressor (2) output and the exhaust input (12) of turbine (3, 4). USE/ADVANTAGE - Design based on standard turbocharger component gives 2-stage charging for e.g. 4-stroke engines at low cost and high efficiency.
