Dynamic rigidity adjuster e.g. for vertical hydraulic damper - uses electro-viscous liq. in two chambers sepd. by horizontal plate in hollow cylinder of conductive material
The ends of an electrically conductive hollow cylinder (HZ) are closed by upper and lower plugs (VO, VU) contg. bearings (DL, EL) for a vertical rod (TB) carrying a horizontal intermediate plate (ZP), which divides the cylinder into two approximately equal chambers (KO, KU) for the electro-viscous liq. The plate is insulated from the cylinder, and a control voltage (US) is applied between the rod and cylinder wall to vary the viscosity of the liq. and hence the vibration damping. USE/ADVANTAGE - With e.g. power station construction, high rigidity is achieved for taking-up vibrations with relatively large horizontal components without difficulty.
