Bleaching surface active cpd. with peroxy cpd. - in presence of alkaline earth ions, zinc ions or alkali silicate as booster

Surface active cpds. are bleached with peroxy cpds. in presence of booster comprising alkaline earth ions, Zn ions and/or alkali silicates. Pref. nonionic tensides, comprising alkylglycosides and polyol fatty acid esters, and anionic tensides, comprising alkylbenzene sulphonates, alkane sulphonates, olefin sulphonates, ester sulphonates, fatty acid sulphonates, ether sulphonates, alkyl sulphates, alkyl ether sulphates, alkylphenol ether sulphates, and sulphotriglycerides, are treated. Bleaching is with 1-5 wt.% of peroxy cpd., w.r.t. solids content of the surface-active cpd., using 100-20,000 ppm, w.r.t. the solids content of the surface-active cpd., of booster, esp. Mg ions, at 80-120 deg.C, and pH 7-14 for 0.1-5 h. ADVANTAGE - The colour of surface active cpds. is improved, using small amt. of peroxy cpd., in a shorter time, to an extent to satisfy aesthetic requirements. Foaming is avoided. In an example, the tenside was 12/14C coco-alkyloligoglucoside as 50% aq. soln. Mixt. of the tenside and 1 wt.% of H2O2 as a 30% soln., was brought to pH 9.5-11 and heated at 90 deg.C for 2 h. The mixt. contained (A) no booster, or (B) 1000 ppm of Mg2+ ions as MgSO4. The Klett colour was: 500, (B) 11
