The container for use in case of a colliery explosion holds a bag containing extinguishing fluid, and is fixed to gallery lining supports. It comprises a base (2) and sides (3,4) at right angles to the probable direction of the explosion. The sides are collapsible but are held in the closed position by a lock (14) comprising two sleeves side by side end on, one on each of the covers (12,13) attached to the sides, and a sliding bar. The bar is inserted in the sleeves and pinned inside by top entry pins, while the blast from an explosion is sufficient to break the bar and release the covers allowing the sides to collapse. USE/ADVANTAGE - For coal dust or firedam explosion fighting, excluding unintentional container discharge.
