The plug-in data store is provided for a coin-operated gaming machine with a central controller, an internal memory and an input/output unit. The plug-in data memory, e.g. a chip card (5) is inserted into a special slot (4) connected to the central control unit by the input/output unit and only accessible when the machine is opened. A priority circuit detects the presence of the plug-in memory and initiates transfer to the latter of all data in the internal memory and all subsequently acquired data. Pref. the plug-in data memory has its own power supply (9). ADVANTAGE - Prevents falsification of VAT returns, e.g. by deliberately switching power off to destroy data in internal memory.
