Ceramic coating of bearing surfaces - by feeding medium contg. plastic and ceramic particles to clearance space while heat is generated by relative movement of surfaces
Mating machine surfaces with parallel clearance space are treated by first circulating through it degreasing fluid which contains metallic adhesion promoter. Lubricant contg. suspended synthetic and ceramic particles is then circulated and the two surfaces are given relative sliding and/or rotating motion to raise the temp. sufficiently to form synthetic layer on the metallic surface with ceramic surface on the synthetic layer. The process ceases automatically when the total thickness reaches the clearance tolerance of the components. The process can be used for fine sizing of bearings or for repairing worn surfaces, esp. in internal combustion engines, or for ceramic coatings of components. The degreasing fluid can contain equal parts of copper sulphate and colloidal silver. The lubricant can be diesel engine lubricating oil containing 400 microns Teflon particles and 3 microns ceramic particles with the optional addn. of graphite powder. USE/ADVANTAGE - Partic. suitable for building up worn engine bearing surfaces.
