The rotary switch has a switch knob (2). This has a conical grip (5) with a region (16) with a scale marked on it, and an axle (6). The axle (6) is attached to the grip (5) via an integral internal connector element (7). A position display is formed as a first light source which is arranged inside the knob (2) and illuminates a section of the scale (16). A second light source, preferably a different colour, illuminates the rest of the grip (5). The grip (5) is formed in one piece from a glass type material. The connector element (7) is attached to the knob (2) at its edges. The knob (2) or the connector (7) has, for example, a reflective coating or a prism structure to prevent the inside of the knob (2) from being seen. USE/ADVANTAGE - As control knob on household appliance e.g. electric fire or cooker. Knob is simple and inexpensive to mfr and has aesthetic quantities so as not to spoil appearance of appliance.
