A process to automatically mend a broken end, on a ring spinning frame. The suction devices at each spinning position, hold the ends of roving. The service robot is arranged to deal with a large number of re-connections and has the air suction regulated accordingly. On a ring spinning frame there is a series of roving bobbins suspended from the creel above. The roving is fed into the drafting rollers, having the output rollers. From this point, a break in the roving, which emerges, and is still not spun is drawn by suction into the tube, which is one of a series at each spinning position on the frame. The amt. of suction available in the tube depends on the distance from the air extraction unit, and the number of tubes with roving in them. This variation is sensed at the service robot, which also utilises air suction along the tube, to bring together the spun yarn from the cop to combine with the roving. The correct amt. of suction to withdraw the roving from the tube is regulated by a logic device module. This is arranged in three sections. Firstly, assessment of the success rate initially, with secondly a memory to retain the preferred successful parameters, and thirdly a device to alter the amount of suction through the tube, as the robot progresses in a certain direction along the frame. ADVANTAGE - A successful and rapid re-connection of the roving to the yarn on the cop requires the service robot to withdraw the roving from the suction tube on the frame, which varies at each spinning position.
