The valve control unit has a valve tappet, with cam part (6). The latter and a valve part (7) together form a hydraulic chamber (8). There is a device to alter the size of the surface of cam or valve part, which faces the hydraulic chamber. The valve part consists of several relatively movable concentric sections (7a,b), the outer one having limited movement. The device to alter the surface size, consists of a bolt (10), which is displaceable in a guide (4) for the cam part, at right angles to the valve control direction (11). ADVANTAGE - Simple design for variation of max valve stroke.
