The fuel tank of a motor vehicle is of roughly oval cross-section and is reinforced internally with baffles arranged parallel to the end walls of the tank. The edges of each baffle (26) are a close fit in the internal contour of the tank. Each baffle (26) has a central hole (14) which provides access to the spaces between the baffle. Each baffle and end wall is reinforced by a horizontal strip of sheet metal which is fitted in a slot in the baffle or end wall and welded to the edges of the slot.
