The parking brake and emergency brake for a vehicle has a hinged arm (4) in a tunnel beneath the centre of the vehicle. It can be swivelled downwards on operating the handbrake lever (1). The arm is fitted with a pair of eccentrically mounted discs (6) having spikes or sharp edged teeth which press into the top layer of the road when parking is required on a slippery surface, or when the normal brakes fail on a good surface. USE/ADVANTAGE - Scraper-type vehicle braking system in which relatively little damage is caused to the road surface.
