The appts. contains a chain wheel in a gear box whose shaft is borne by a housing formed by a gear or blind bearing housing removably attached to the gear box (5). The chain tension is measured by at least one measurement element (23) mounted on the gear wheel. The measurement element is mounted outside the bearing housing on the periphery of an aperture (14) through which the chain runs. The bearing housing is directly or indirectly in contact with a housing part in the aperture. USE/ADVANTAGE - For reliable measurement of chain tension with reduced cost, esp. without using removable chain wheel shaft bearing. Easy to assemble and maintain.
