The self-locking sliding gear drive consists of two different cog wheels (2,3) fixed to an axle(9) in a gear-box. Two rollers (1) are mounted on a carriage (5). A tension roller(3.1) is tensioned by a tensioning piece (7) which has a monitor-circuit (8) which is activated especially when the threaded continuous chain (4) is broken. The drive wheel (2.1) is in the form of a chain wheel. The fixed rollers of the right-hand pulley-block are chain wheels and fixed at a point (6) in the gear-box
