Compressed gas insulator for HV plant - has flanged earthed casing with mounting ring between flanges and insulator body supporting curved electrode surface

The insulator has an earthed casing with an insulator body supporting an HV electrode with a curved surface. The insulator body is made from partly homogeneous dielectric material and the casing is made from flanged tubular sections bolted together with a mounting ring. During operation of the plant, outside the insulator body, the electric field lines pass across the insulating gas from an electrode to the earthed casing. Within the insulator body, they pass from the electrode to the mounting ring. The insulator body may be made of two different homogeneous dielectric materials. ADVANTAGE - Avoids dielectric weak points irrespective of use to which insulator is put.
