The method involves generating signals corresp. to the actual injection value, a demanded injected quantities for given operating parameter values and a revolution rate signal. A correction signal is derived from a comparison between the actual (QEIst) and demand (QESoll) fuel quantity values. The signal (SD) representing the actual fuel quantity corresp. to the injection period (SDIst). The actual value of a fuel quantity derived from an injection period-revolution rate-injection quantity characteristic field is compared with the demand value to derive the correction value.
