Lipids and lipid derivs. are used, esp. in processed form, as fuels in combustion engines with direct fuel injection. The fatty -acid contg. lipids and lipid derivs. are heated at a controlled temp. and are treated with steam to wash out water soluble components, minerals and phospholipids, filtered to remove solids of greater than 2 micron size and opt. purified by absorption using, e.g. clay minerals (claimed). The combustion motor has corrosion resistant parts. USE/ADVANTAGE - Fatty acid - contg. lipids and lipid derivs. which are not suitable for human or animal consumption can be usefully exploited as a fuel, preventing environmental contamination associated with other methods of disposal
