The spring consists of a leaf or a column (1) which is subjected to a compressive load. When a given limiting load is reached the column buckles. The spring has a stiff characteristic until the limiting load, and then gives a constant force until the max. deflection (S max) is reached. The spring is clamped in a sliding bearing block (2) at one end, to which the load is applied. The other end is clamped in a hinged bearing block which may rotate when the spring buckles. A stop (3) limits the spring deflection, allowing no further movement when S max is reached. USE/ADVANTAGE - Buckling compression spring acts as load limiting device.
