Prodn. comprises performing the known interfacial polycarbonate synthesis from diphenols, phosgene, chain cleavage agents and opt. branching agents, then adding 0.01-20 mol.% amine-terminated aliphatic polyamide with Mn 400-200,000 (II) (w.r.t. no. of moles diphenol) after adding the phosgene. The polycarboante segment is prepd. by reaction of Bisphenol A, etc. with phosgene in a 2-phase system for 10 mns.-2 hrs. at 15-40 deg. C and pH 9-14, in the presence of chain cleavage agents such as phenol and branching agents such as phloroglucinol, etc., followed by addn. of (II) and polycondensation for 5-60 mins. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in situations requiring a combination of hardness (polycarbonate segment) and elasticity (aliphatic segment), esp. cold flexibility, e.g. car bodywork, low pressure tyres, sheathing for pipes, sheeting, tubes, flexible driving wheels, medical applications, etc.
