The system consists of a flat spiral spring (3) or a number of flat spiral springs, which are mounted on a shaft (4) and are installed in a housing (2). The inner end of the spring is fixed at the hollow wind up shaft and the outer end of the spring is fixed at the housing. The complete system is built at the engine with the housing (2) fixed opposite the crankshaft. Following the complete loading of the spring, the component (6) is brought in to engagement with the engine crankshaft. The system can also be wound up by the engine before it is brought to a standstill. USE/ADVANTAGE - System can be fitted to any place on engine and can be driven from crankshaft e.g. across chain or gears. Gives mechanical starting without battery.
