Paper polishing roller - has inner tie rods along the length with individual tensioning to link the roller journals

The polishing roller, for paper mfg., has a number of tie rods along the longitudinal line of the roller, as an internal bond between the two roller journals. The separate tie rods can be tensed individually. Pref. the ratio of the inner to the outer dia. of the roller mantle is 0.5 less than d/D less than 0.75. The roller mantle has axial drillings on a concentric part circle, for the tie rods to pass through them. The tie rods are secured against radial deviation, and are curved against the roller axis so that the gap between the separate tie rods and the roller axis is at a min. over half the lengths. The tie rods are arranged on two concentric part circles, with the outer tie rods passing through peripheral drillings in the roller mantle, and the inner tie rods through a common inner drilling. The inner tie rods are each in part lengths screwed into blind drillings, with a common threaded sleeve at the butting joints between them under tension. USE/ADVANTAGE - The polishing roller is a chilled shell moulded cast iron roller for paper mfg. The line forces it can take are increased without increasing the roller dia. or giving thicker roller mantles.
