Disinfectant for use in animal stalls - contains aldehyde(s), alkyl:alkanol(s) and phenoxy:alkanol(s)

Compsn. contains (a) aldehydes or cpds. supplying aldehydes; (b) alkylalkanols of formula R1 - CH(R2) - CH2OH (I), and (c) phenoxyalkanols, phenyl monoglycol ethers of an oligo-glycol with up to 20 ethylene oxide units, or phenylalkanols opt. substd. with 1-18C alkyl. In (I), R1 is 3-5C alkyl, and R2 = 1-3C alkyl. (a) Is pref. HCHO, glyoxal, glutaric dialdehyde and/or succinic dialdehyde. (b) Is pref. 2-ethylhexanol. (c) Is pref. 2-phenoxyethanol, 1-phenoxy-2-propanol, 2- or 3-phenoxy-1-propanol, 1-phenoxy-2-butanol, 2-phenoxy-1-butanol, 1- or 2-phenylethanol, 3-phenyl-1-propanol, benzyl alcohol, and/or alpha, 4-dimethylbenzyl alcohol, esp. a mixt. of 1-phenoxy-2-butanol and 2-phenoxy-1-butanol. The pref. ratio of (b):(c) is 1:5-5:1 (0.8:1-1:0.8), and of (b) + (c):(a) is 3:1-1:3 (1:1.3-1.9), and the total content of (b) + (c) is 1-50 (5-15) wt.%. The compsn. may be an aq. dilute compsn. contg. 0.1-10 (1-5) wt.% of the concentrate. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in animal stalls (claimed). The disinfectant has wide activity, is environmentally-friendly, biodegradable and active at high contamination levels and/or low temp., and contains no organic halogen cpds. In an example, (A) a disinfectant contg., w.r.t. 100 g of compsn., 9 g of HCHO, 3.6 g of glyoxal, 3.75 g of glutaric dialdehyde, 5 g of 2-ethylhexanol, 5 g of a mixt. of 1-phenoxy-2-propanol and 2-phenoxy-1-propanol (84:16), and anionic tensides, solubilisers, perfume and anti-corrosion agent, was compared with (B) "Lysovet" PA (RTM) (with the same compsn. but contg. 4-bromo-2,6-dimethylphenol instead of phenoxypropanols).
