Characterisation and identification of selected areas in display images - separating images into regions that can be identified and stored in memory

The method uses a display region with an image (34) that consists of a number of different areas that each represent regions that can be overlapped. The pixel information relating to each section is stored in a region of memory (36). The user may select pixel data within each section by accessing the appropriate memory location. Identifiers are specified for each region and there may be compared with table values. USE - E.g. for selecting specific areas of digitised video image for subsequent manipulation.
