A method for identifying or recognizing roadway markings from image data, takes the morphological properties of the point-image roadway markings into consideration on the basis of a priori knowledge. From the total image data for processing, the zones/regions are separated out, in which with a high degree of probability and starting from the a priori knowledge, are contained roadway markings (ROI) or regions of interest.
