A single chip microprocessor is supplied from an instruction decoder that is fed over the internal bus (33) to gating stages coupled to the ALU (32) and the multiplier (31). The multiplier function has the inputs multiplexed through to single bit stages together with a 2 bit extraction circuit that identifies a multiplication function. The outputs generated in sequence by the two single bit multipliers are received by an adder that generates outputs which are stored and fed back to the inputs in an iterative process. ADVANTAGE - Offers high speed multiplication.
